Has anyone ever mounted a microphone directly to the table, using a "gooseneck" or similar device, rather than a separate microphone stand?
Are there any "feedback" considerations?

Hi Rudi,
I've always used a boom stand, a condenser mike, with it pointed toward the fingerboard but away from the sound hole. Having a stand on the table itself risks extraneous. sounds coming through the mike. If I have enough equipment available I put on mike as described above and another one over the luftresonanz with a third one for my vocals. This has worked well over the years. I did have a built in transducer in one of my instruments but I've always found the microphone to be far superior for good sound.

For the last several weeks I'v been working on guitar to accompany the violinist Greis brothers and Doug Scott on some Schrammel numbers..."Meran - Marsch", ..."a Weanerisdher Tanz", und "a Walzer nur höhrn" for the local Austrian Weinfest coming up Oct 20.
We celebrated my 81st birthday this week....the old fingers just ain't what they used to be ....as our daughter says, "remember Dad, you're not 80 anymore...( the older the buck , the......)
If I get some time this winter, I will try the Meran Marsch on zither; it's a beauty.

Hi Rudi,
I've got a bunch of LIving History performances this month so I've mainly been working on bowed dulcimer and pipes. I'll get back to zither after all of this is over. November will be more restful. I have really been enjoying the new zither table with its increased bass response. I am a mere 74. I have slowed down a bit but there is still some life in the old carcass!

I use the AKG pickup (https://www.amazon.com/AKG-High-Perform ... 163&sr=8-2) which has a sticky substance to attach to my wooden standing desk (I prefer standing when I play, and there isn't always a grand piano to play on). The mike is about 5 inches from the fretboard. It's amplified by a Roland Cube which is handy as it can be cordless with batteries. I tried putting the mike on my instrument but the sound became distorted, so this seems to work quite well.
