Playing in Public

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to play the Zither for real people for the first time. I have been attending a German Speakers meetup group for the past several months (started learning at the beginning of the pandemic), and one of the woman who attends regularly, Johanna, wanted to have a little birthday celebration with the group. She brought snacks and I brought my Zither and played a few songs for her birthday. Once I got past the initial angst of it all, it was all a lot of fun. Unfortunately the picnic tables don’t have the same resonance / pickup as a Zither Table, but for our little group it worked out very well.

Anyway! Just wanted to share - hope everyone is healthy and well.

Bravo Andy!

When I first started performing in public (professional cellist, back in the day ...) I was so nervous. Felt like everyone in the audience would be a better cellist than I was.

But in most cases, the audience is really there because (1) they want you to succeed, and (2) they admire what you can do.

I'm so glad you had a positive experience in your "public debut"!

Have you discovered the "German" communities north of Austin?

That's where I used to buy my Christmas Lebkuchen and Stollen.

Best to you.
