Zither in Film
The zither and its music is most commonly associated with "The Third Man" movie. It has, however, made appearances in other films. In this photograph, French actress Annabella receives zither lessons from Charles P. Burton for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's "Bridal Suite," while the film's music director, Arthur Guttman, looks on. Can you name others?

Re: Zither in Film
With all the news about the new Sound of Music production on TV, I looked at the 1956 German film Die Trapp Familie,
and found the following:
The film on youtube:

and noted that the actress who played Maria is shown playing a zither in this Christmas segment/scene:

I am not sure the real Maria played zither, but interesting in itself for zitherists perhaps.

Here is my contribution: http://www.myvideo.de/watch/7212744/Sis ... ilm_part_5
(fast forward to 7:10 !)
Sissi was a daughter of Duke Maximilian Joseph of Bavaria (see e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Maxim ... in_Bavaria ) who allegedly made several of his ten children play the zither.

Re: Zither in Film
Thank you both for the mention of Sissi and Die Trapp Familie. A friend made me aware of another film that can be added to this growing list. There is a zitherist in Walt Disney's The Miracle of the White Stallions, a story about the Lipizzan horses and the Spanish Riding School in Vienna during World War II. In the movie, the zitherist appears a little past the 12 minute mark.

Re: Zither in Film
My wife and I was watching an old western called “Kentucky Rifle”.
In it Chill Wills strummed a zither like a kid strumming a guitar, while picking notes on the griffbrett.
