Bergfee Strings
Faced with the prospect of restringing (most anything I’m encountering in my search for an instrument would require restringing), I notice that Amazon US carries Bergfee strings. Are they good ones? And there are also three grades, Red(steel), Blue, and Green (both nylon). Which among these would be best?
Appreciate your input.

Re: Bergfee Strings
Morning!
I've ordered two sets of Bergfee strings from Amazon and they've been great. I started with the Red Labels but after reading here about tension, I ended up switching over to the Green Labels. The sound is indistinguishable to me, but someone with a better ear than I may think differently.

Re: Bergfee Strings
I'm all for the Lenzner fisoma; they're just easier on my fingers.
Re: Bergfee Strings
After spending nearly $150 for new Lenzner Soloklang strings, I was very disappointed in the "twangy metallic" sound I get, not to mention the sore fingers. I'd never heard of Bergfee Green until this topic was started. They're evidently nylon, so easier on the fingers, and probably what I should have got when I started my zither adventure. Wish I'd known about them four years ago when I started!
I went to Amazon, found Bergfee Red Munich sets from US$130 to around $200. Bergfee Blue sets start at well over US$200. Bergfee green sets begin around US$200. Individual green sell at around $12 each string. Yikes. Am I reading this right? The nylon string sets, which would probably make learning a bit faster and more enjoyable, are over US$200?
Who can afford that when you're just starting out? Especially when you've already spent $150 on strings recommended by my experienced folks.
Thanks.

Re: Bergfee Strings
There are other domestic sources, which sound a bit less expensive....and one can buy a partial set (ex eb to g#) accompaniment, which is where a lot of the finger wear occurs. This may be a personal taste, but nylon strings are a bit easier on the fingers, and sound a little more mellow.

Re: Bergfee Strings
I've been using Bergfe strings for decades. The Blue label ones have a very thin steel filament for use with a magnetic pickup. The Green and the same strings without the metal core. I've gone to the Green bercause of the lower tension on my perfekta zither.

Thanks, Ken Bloom. That’s a very clear explanation of the difference between the Blue and the Green. And, I was wondering.
