I dont know this particular Lied, but Kako Ishihara wrote a great zither-version of Edelweiss. See if you can get her sheet-music book that inscludes the famous Japanese tunes: Falling Cherry Blossoms and Ruins in the Moonshine

Thanks Ken,

and first, an "ooops"; the correct title from a published version is "da Schwoagerin ihr Herzload".

We sang this ballad at home during the 1940's and later. Verse 3 is the "Edelweiss" verse. This is a very sad song.

A version of this (with updated title) can be found in Goldene Wiener Musik - 100 Jahre Wienerlied pp100ff . The composer (arranger??) is listed as R Frettensattel Op.9. We sang this song 70 years ago, without text or notes; Oma led from memory. Has this become part of the traditional folksmusic and now in public domain?

There is a forward to this collection by Vincenz Chiavacci, but my tattered copy does not include the publishers name or date. Our daughter obtained it via ebay.de.

verse 3, as we sang it:

Edelweiss, Edelweiss, bist a schön's Bleamal
Edelweiss, Edelweiss, blüast so schnee weiss
Weiss ist der Tot, ja und tot is'mei arma Bua
weiss sind die Wangen und Lippen wia Eis.

refrain:
wann i so vor di steh'
tuat mir mei Herz so weh
Edelweiss, Edelweiss, blüast so schneeweiss.

verse 1 Enzian, verse 2 Almarausch.
