If this question has already been solved, please forgive an "olde timer".

Has anyone found a reliable source for rectangular tuning wrenches. Which size?

Rudy, I don't believe so. It continues to be a persistent issue. For those who have purchased an early zither missing a tuning key, which may require new strings anyway, perhaps it would be more practical to replace the early rectangular-headed pins with modern square-headed ones instead? It solves the immediate problem and a future one, if the rectangular tuning wrench should go missing.

The Meinel & Herold Klingenthal I received for Father's Day 2018 came with three tuning wrenches, one square, two rectangular.

Rudi.
I have a spare rectangular key if you would like it.
It is well made with what looks like a rosewood handle.

Thank you...but I forgot to mention the third key, which was square and fit.

Good morning. I know this is and old thread but I thought I’d ask. I bought a concert zither from an auction. The tuning pegs are rectangle. Didn't come with a tuner. Was that someone had ask before. Anybody know where I could get my hands on one?
Thanks

I had the same problem! The solution was to get a Rubner 160-107 tuning key for 5.5 / 5.7 mm wrest pins, which has a square 4.5 x 4.5 mm hole in the end, and make it rectangular, 4.5 x 6.25 mm using a small square section metal file.

This works very well.

Rubner also make tuning keys for larger, 6.25 mm and 5.9 mm diameter wrest-pins, but I don't know the sizes of the hole, unfortunately.

An even better solution might be to use one of these bigger sizes, and add 0.5 mm or 1 mm sheet brass bushes held in with cyanoacrylate superglue to make the square hole rectangular. This would have the advantage that the brass would "wear in" to give a really good fit.

I will try and build one like u suggested. That is a good idea.
3/15 is the size of peg
And not sure who the manufacture is. Put this was on the inside.
