Hey all,

Been a while, but the practicing has not stopped. I’ve been focusing a lot on correcting my curling little finger, its been a lot of work but I’ve got some better control over it now. Here is “Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht”.

HI Andy, Your right hand looks great. I know what pain it is to keep that little finger from curling but it looks like you've got it! Congratulation. Now, all you have to do is to start using that little finger on some of the more distant bass and contra bass strings. That can give you some more interesting accompaniments. Have a great and musical Christmas.

Andy, that's wonderful!

We (zither, dulcimer, recorder) used a reduced tempo at the Wendlstoana Christmas party last Sunday, as the members sang along.

....and your zither really has good tone. What a beautiful instrument.

Andy, thank you very much for the video. Your right hand looks so much better, and going by what I see (and hear) you seem to be making excellent progress. I would however recommend, if I may, to play the piece a bit slower. The annotation on the score I use (contained in "Im Heimgarten", Band 1) suggests that it should be played sehr langsam, ie very slow (a good opportunity to practice vibrato, btw).

Thanks Evelyn,

My tempo for Stille Nacht was locked in when singing with the St. Boniface's boys choir 70 years ago.

In those days we youngsters had to fast before midnight Mass...I can still remember one of the choir members (Eugen Spielvogel by name) passing out and hitting his head on the terrazo floor....but not dropping his burning candle. The ushers blew it out, and carried him out.

Good recommendation, thank you Evelyn. I really need to get in the habit of playing with a metronome, can feel myself rushing sometimes. And it would be good to start practicing vibrato, I tried yesterday afternoon to apply it to silent night and the moment I started to oscillate my left finger my right hand froze in place. Gonna have to learn how to coordinate the new type of motion.
