Gebr. Gunzelmann Metal Frame Zither

Post by maxwareham »

Finally got this back from being restored. I think it's from the 1870's (?), Nürnburg. The metal frame is quite unique. It sounds wonderful. There was an issue with the zero fret, so it was replaced with a bone nut, and the bridge that holds the string pins in place was rebuilt. I'm really loving its sound. If anyone can tell me anything about it, I'd love to hear! Now back to practicing...

The Roy Acuff Museum in Nashville, Tennessee has a zither like this one. I've only seen pictures of it but with that metal frame, it is very distinctive. Don't know anything more about them but it sure looks interesting.
