H. A. Weymann Concert Zither

Post by Dave »

Founded in 1864, the business of Weymann & Son manufactured and distributed a variety of instruments, including zithers. The attached photos are of one of the company's 32-string concert zithers. The maker's label for this instrument, serial number 7639, has been placed at the base of the fretboard. It reads, "Keystone State High Grade, Manuf'd by H. A Weymann & Son, Phila., PA., Makers of the Weymann, Highest Grade." Dating this instrument to a year of manufacture does not look promising. According to a great-great-grandson of Henry A. Weymann, founder of the company, "there are few family stories and no old paperwork concerning its operation."
