Re: Source for strings in US
Paul, what type of strings were on the instrument when you obtained it? I wonder if it's an older zither, where steel strings were expected. Could you post a pic of the problem area, and also one of your instrument?

Zithering in Washington, Missouri
A friend shared this link today. Here’s a news report from Nine PBS a few years back when the Zither Club of Ludwigsburg, Germany, visited Washington, Missouri. There is also some footage from inside the Schwarzer exhibit in the Washington Historical Society Museum. I’ve never visited, but it’s on m...

Re: Newbie post
Hi Steve, welcome to the forum. Looks like you have a playable zither, so you've passed that initial hurdle for those wanting to learn. :) In case you're not aware, there is a large number of zither selections on the web site, digitized and available to sink your fingers into. https://www.zither.us/...

Location Field in User Profiles

It would be nice for others to see where other folks are writing from, or in case someone would like to connect to a zither player in their area via messaging. I changed the member view option to ...

Re: Question about Staccato
Perhaps try exaggerating it...that's what I do. Say, make a series of d notes on the a string with your 2nd finger, such as dah dah da! When you come to the staccato, as your thumb strikes the string, simultaneously depress the note a little harder and release (but not off the string as Evelyn has p...

Re: Volkstümliche Zitherschule p27 - Röslein
Hi Andy, The right hand pinky is generally found to be a nuisance in the beginning. Some resort to rubber bands in an attempt to tame it, to keep it from waving about or curling up. You may want to try using your 4th and 5th together when pulling the bass strings. This does not limit you in any way ...

Re: One of the last letters from Schwarzer Zither factory
Thanks for posting this. I have two of Albert Hesses's letters, dated ten years prior, but only one side of the conversation.
