Re: Tuning Chart

Hi June, I believe Tom is correct. I don't recall ever having posted a chart for Viennese tuning.

Re: Munich VS Vienna

If you’re fortunate enough to meet up with a more experienced zither player here in US, that player will most likely be using Munich tuning. So, for the sole sake of your future instructor, I would suggest going with Munich tuning. My .02. ;-)

Re: Listening recommendations?

I second all of the above recommendations. I would also recommend searching Youtube for “Slovenski citrarski kvartet.” They are super! As you have an interest in comparing Viennese vs Munich, I can offer that the most famous player of Viennese zither, Anton Karas, adjusted the tuning for his zither ...

Re: Need help in chosing Zither strings

Other vendors may have similar options, but Lenzner offers fretboard strings in 3 lengths. Concert zither: fretboard length 41.5 cm Harp Zither: fretboard length 43.5 cm (also suitable for concert zithers, extended and luftresonance zithers) Psalter Zither: fretboard length 45.5 cm Sounds like the m...

Re: String material

Hi Max, you won't need steel core strings, unless you're planning to use your zither with an electromagnetic pickup. Everyone here has a personal preference, most likely, but I would recommend nylon strings for your replacement. Because they're longer, you can buy harp zither strings and use them on...

Re: Im Heimgarten

Hi Pete, the "Im Heimgarten" books (there are three in the series) are available at notenbuch.de. Shipping to Australia for one book looks to be ~7 Euros. I have *never* had an issue ordering from this site. Here's the direct link: https://www.notenbuch.de/Search.html?searchparam=heimgarten

Re: Forum and Website Moving

June, thank you! Yes, looks like the link had changed. I just fixed it. :-)

For those interested in browsing Library of Congress zither selections, the direct link can be found on this page:

Re: Aloha 'Oe

That's great info, thank you Ken! To my surprise, there was a zither II as well, so I've added it as an attachment to the original post.

Best,

Dave

Aloha 'Oe

I found this zither arrangement while looking through an ancient box of sheet music from the San Francisco Zither Club. Thought others would like to see it too, so I'm posting it here. Enjoy!

Re: Forum and Website Moving

Thanks Tom, it went smoother than expected, thankfully. Zither US is now on a dedicated server, so I expect there will be performance enhancements as well. Just a FYI to everyone, the website, www.zither.us, has been migrated and is now accessible. Please review when you have the opportunity. Your c...
