Welcome to Zither.us!
How'd you get interested in playing this wonderful instrument?
For me, it was first hearing Anton Karas in The Third Man. What a fascinating post-WW2 film.
And where did you buy that beautiful zither of yours? You're indeed a lucky man.

Re: Sandner model H1
Thanks Evelyn. You definitely have an advantage. Your family already knew zither - and you had a teacher! Most visitors to the Forum are/were trying to learn, but there are no teachers, and the long-time members all seem to have learned from family and/or teachers. I always thought it funny that mos...

Hi Evelyn - welcome to the forum.
That zither at the bottom of your post resembles my Schuster.
How did you get interested in learning zither?
What method books did you use to get started?
Gruss!

Re: Oh, was that bad!
Rudi - I'd pose the question as: "What does your group want?" Big audiences in large halls with amplification? or does your group want to play folk music as it was originally intended? Amplification will let many more people hear you - but they may not actually be there to hear you at all....

Re: What’s this?
That's a mute (sordino) for stringed instruments, most likely violin or viola. It's usually ebony, and slides down onto the bridge under the strings, to "dampen" the bridge from vibrating. It cuts down on the vibrations hitting the sound box (the body), so the instrument emits less sound. ...

Re: Franz Schwarzer Zither
Easiest way to post photos is to put them on a public photo sharing site, like Google Photos, Flickr, etc. Then just put the link to the photo into your Zither forum post. Another way is to shrink the photo size using various editing apps. I use Windows Paint, which has a "resize" icon bui...

Re: Bergfee Strings
After spending nearly $150 for new Lenzner Soloklang strings, I was very disappointed in the "twangy metallic" sound I get, not to mention the sore fingers. I'd never heard of Bergfee Green until this topic was started. They're evidently nylon, so easier on the fingers, and probably what I...

Re: Newish Horst Wünsche
Hi Andy - congratulations on the new family member! Could you give a bit more detail on "The fretted strings are also much easier on the fingers "? I don't understand what you mean. Less tension so easier to press down? or softer material (nylon vs. metal)? or strings are closer to frets s...
