Music rack

My home-made portable music rack. Square of plywood, bent strap iron, hinge. Slides under the zither; can be folded flat for packing. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/w4O6VCN4BKLl6W2V_ZdpaInz8nnsfjsTq1Zj8FWnQ2PEzNl3MN_d9ATn3-si870As-up35E5QKqDoVlV_6dO2RgrSLbWmQyfPYCL_lGjyHeT7MJizrFTBRG0QySRIXckmxih...

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Thank you Evelyn! It's the right side of the finger tip that sounds the strings when you play.

I also notice the angle of your middle finger quite different from Andy's. It appears your middle finger is bent at the first knuckle off the hand, while Andy's looks almost straight.

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Andy - good example! To me, he's not sounding the string with finger *tips* - he's using the right side of the finger's tip, the right corner of the fingernail. In other words, he's got his fingers angled at the string, using the right side of the tip, instead of pointing straight down, using the fi...

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Rudi - iphones are fun, but they're only one-to-one. You'd need to post the photos here, or videos on YouTube, so we can share them.

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Rudi - thanks for the suggestions!

Would it be possible to post photos to show what you're describing?

Thanks.

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Andy - something I noticed over my years of "zither struggle": words and "method books" don't work very well in describing the reality of zither positioning, hand positioning, finger usage, etc. Example: what are "finger tips"? I'd always thought a "finger tip"...

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Andy - this seems like a perfect opportunity to use something like Zoom or Skype with an experienced zither player. You'd get feedback on what you're doing, and see how the expert actually places him/herself at the instrument. (Would actually be an idea for several zitherists, giving them a "zi...

Hi Andy. Just posted a comment on your YouTube channel. Really enjoyed your performance.

Also learned what a "basket of turf" is!

Happy Easter to you and all.

Re: Humidty Control

Hi Rudy. Sounds like your water is full of minerals! Most folks with that problem use distilled water in their humidifiers. And certainly, use a hygrometer so you know the humidity level. Question to the group: how did 19th and early 20th century musicians deal with the humidity problems (tuning, wa...

Re: Humidty Control

Hi Rudy. Have you thought of just putting a small floor humidifier in the room? We used those when I lived in South Milwaukee years ago. Something like this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/AIRCARE-6-Gal-Evaporative-Humidifier-for-2-300-sq-ft-826000/205997943 On a related tack, in nineteenth century or ...
