Re: Zither Sunday, July 14, 2019

Rudi - best wishes for the Zitherspielfest.

Wish I lived closer than 1500 miles away!

Back in the 1970s, I lived in South Milwaukee, while at Mitchell Field (USAF).

Re: Back to basics...

Hi Rudy - My doctor says I'm in excellent health ... for someone who's 175 years old! I'm a volunteer farmer/orchardist at Old Sturbridge Village, a living history museum in Massachusetts. All Things Considered

Did anyone else hear the zither music on All Things Considered this afternoon on NPR stations?

Re: Tuning Buttons

Hi John, and welcome to the Zither forum. Sounds like you've got some work ahead of you; if the zither has literally been a wall-hanger, it might have internal cracks and damage from dry - or humid - environment. Once you've checked out more details, you may want to send the instrument to a repair e...

Re: Harmonics on the Free Strings

Hi Andy - very similar to playing violins, cellos, guitar, etc. Halfway across any open string, the harmonic sounds one octave higher than the open string. But different points on the open string have different harmonics. Some harmonic notation systems show the actual spot on the string to touch; ot...

Re: Volkstümliche Zitherschule p27 - Röslein

Hi Andy - congratulations on the continued progress! Say, isn't that a different zither from the one you've played on previous videos? I remember there was art work on the surface of the earlier instrument, and the turned black "stretcher" of this new one seems to have a light color center...
