Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Rudy, This actually worked out really well for the music stand. Given the new position of the zither on the table and the placement of my chair, there is more room for the music stand, and it feels more natural. Side note: My Great Grandfather, who's Zither I inherited, was also a carpenter in his s...

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Thank you for the photos Evelyn, thats a big help. I note that my fingers are sort of swooping onto the strings and gripping them, while Andy's position appears to be considerably flatter and his fingers look as if strumming/stroking the strings rather than gripping them. Spot on. When I first start...

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Hey Tom, I think in this case, playing with your finger tips means the fleshy bit at the end of your finger nail. Steffen Hempel is a good example of someone who plays on his finger tips, and he has a lot of videos with some really great shots of his fingers. This video of his, Gauklertanz, is a goo...

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Tom, That could be an option! I was actually reading up on zither gatherings in Missouri. I had been hoping to attend one this year, though Covid has put a quash on that for the moment. It would certainly be amazing to meet and trade notes with experienced players in person. Evelyn, That is pretty m...

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Hey Evelyn, Thanks! I have been trying to sit a bit higher, but honestly I’m not so sure I care for it, there isn’t much room for my legs under the table at that height. I’ve been trying to re-evaluate things, how high I sit, the angle of the zither, all trying to get some more mobility and reach wi...

Re: Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Thanks Tom, and thanks for the picture. I hadn't expected a "basket of turf" to be so literal. Hope you're doing well!

Happy Easter,

Practice Video - Basket of Turf

Hey all, Hope everyone is doing well with their social distancing and stay at home orders if you've got them. I've been working from home for the past three weeks and the novelty is just about worn off. On the upside, plenty of opportunities to practice. This is the first song I've done in a differe...

Re: Social distancing - Corona virus

Hope everyone is holding up well. Sure feels surreal here thats for sure. Velocio, thanks for the links, nice to have another site to find zither music from. Rudi, can those pieces be played solo? I’ve still had no luck finding another zither player here in Texas, and sure not going to find one whil...
