Re: New member, new post

Welcome! Always nice to have another player. And you've certainly come to the right place, there's a wealth of knowledge in the forum here. Your Zither is beautiful! You're lucky to have such a nice instrument to learn on. I've only been playing for a few years, but I'll throw into the chorus too - ...

Practice Video - S isch Rosezyt

Hello everyone, I hope you are all staying safe & healthy. Today I recorded my progress on the first song from Carmens MZZG meetup. I've had a great time getting this up to speed, still some bumps to work out, but a fun song to play. I've adjusted my sitting position per Carmens suggestions, and...

Re: Chord of the Seventh

Hey Carmen, Hope you and your family are doing well and staying dry! Sorry to hear about all the flooding that's going on. Re: 7th Chords. Correct me if I'm wrong, but after going through the notes and looking it over, there may be an easier way to explain this. It seems like if you are trying to pl...

Re: New Guy On The Block

*wave* Welcome to the forums Bruce. That’s a really nice looking Zither. Your going to have a lot of fun learning, just be patient, the learning curve is brutal. Always happy to answer questions. Magdalena is amazing, learning a few of her arrangements now. Look forward to seeing you around, - Andy

Indeed! Welcome Steve! You've found yourself a very nice looking Zither. How are you finding it so far? There are a lot of resources to be found in the forum. Id definitely recommend checking out some of the Method books (Keyes Scales is a must).

Re: Altzither strings and tuning

Don,

Thank you very much for the info, and for the chart, thats a big help. Its nice to see that the tuning on the free-strings isn't all too complicated, looks like all the notes have just shifted down one.

Re: Altzither strings and tuning

Oof, I understand my mistake now. Its a half octave lower, the D string on the Fretboard is an A. E E A D G not A A D G C. Oh my head. Thankfully I had a spare accompaniment A string lying around that fit and tuned up well - still not he right material, but a nice hold over until a suitable replacem...

Altzither strings and tuning

Hello all, Before the end of last year, I placed an order for a new Altzither. After months of waiting, it has finally arrived - and naturally after a three month wait, the first thing I did was break the D string on the fretboard... doh... Which brings me to my question - Is the Altzither tuned the...

Re: Intonation

Hey there! I had a similar problem a few months ago. I was constantly retuning the string, but then in Postion 2 / 3 on the fretboard, the notes would be off, even though the string was tuned to D. I ended up replacing the string and it fixed everything. It hadn't occurred to me until the problem th...

Re: Keyes and other methods for right hand

Oh man, I would have killed for a Keyes style explanation of the right hand mechanics when I was starting. Getting a grip (tee-hee) of your right hand is gonna take some time and determination. I can tell you that when I play, I pull down and towards myself with the top corner of my finger tip. Evel...
