Re: Bergfee Strings
Morning! I've ordered two sets of Bergfee strings from Amazon and they've been great. I started with the Red Labels but after reading here about tension, I ended up switching over to the Green Labels. The sound is indistinguishable to me, but someone with a better ear than I may think differently. -...

Re: Newish Horst Wünsche
Morning Tom! It seems like the fretted strings don’t require quite as much force to achieve good sound. What stood out the most to me was the Bb on the A string. The strings themselves are the same on both instruments. I think the issue comes down to some wear on the fret, I had to press the string ...

Newish Horst Wünsche
Afternoon everyone, Around the middle of July I started shopping around for a new Zither. While I thoroughly enjoy playing my Great Grandfathers Oscar Otto, I am less comfortable taking it places with me. I figure it would be safer to leave the antique at home and find something less irreplaceable t...

Re: Texas Zitherists
Morning Michael, I’m only about ten minutes away from Georgetown in North East Austin (right at the border of Pflugerville on 35). I’ve only been playing since February, but I’d be happy to share what I’ve learned so far once you’re instrument hunt is complete. I’ll PM you my contact information. Andy

Re: Two Zithers for sale
Hello from Austin, M! I'm not sure about other Zither players yet, however I don't get down to Fredricksburg or New Braunfels often, should really take a trip and explore. As for the logistics of playing in Texas, I can tell you that it costs around 75 euros to ship a Zither from Germany to the Stat...

Re: July 25, 2018
Hey Pete, For me it was the concept that helped bring some sanity to the free strings. It gives you an awareness of where your fingers are and where they are going. Once you have that type of anchor your right hand can walk on its own and your eyes can roam. When I’m working on chord drills, I’ll tr...

Re: July 25, 2018
Hey Tom, I was actually trying to show that I was using rest strokes in the video. Each time I pause I’m tugging gently on the strings that my fingers are resting on. My understanding is that “rest stroke” refers to the string your finger comes to a rest on after playing. For example, after playing ...

Hey Tom, Know you were looking for someone experienced, but hopefully this will help out. I have attached what may be the most awkward picture of a Zither ever taken. It shows my point of view sitting in front of the instrument, how many hand aligns and the angle it creates with my body. IMG_0707.jp...

Practice Video - Folie d'Espagne variée
Afternoon everyone! I wanted to share a piece of music I’ve been working on for the past few months called “Folie d’Espagne variée”. I first heard it being played by Zither Ruth on her YouTube channel, and thankfully she included the name of the music book in the description of her video. Since all ...

Re: I am exhausted with this site.
Hey Pete! I'm sorry your feeling frustrated, but don’t give up hope! I really don’t think what your experiencing is personal or any sort of elitism as much as the reality of the space. There just aren’t that many Zither players. Our little community here is sifting through history together. The best...
