Harmonics on the Free Strings

Hello folks! I’m a bit confused. I’ve been looking at a new piece of music and at the end of the song there are a few measures that use harmonics on the free strings. I didn’t know this was possible. I understand the concept on the fretted strings and have had some success with it, but how on earth ...

Re: Question about Staccato

Alles klar! I think I may have been overthinking it, and depressing the string too slowly. I’ll keep at it and try over-exaggerating.

Thanks Evelyn & Dave!

Question about Staccato

Hey all, I've been slowly working through the next lesson in the Volksümliche book. This one has marks for playing notes staccato. Just to sanity check, what is the proper way to play staccato? It seems like you would just lift the finger fretting the note, but keep touching the string to silence it...

Re: Volkstümliche Zitherschule p27 - Röslein

Ken, Thank you! Thats really good feedback. The little fingers have been a struggle for sure. I’ve given up hope on the left one, it has a mind on of its own. The right one though, I may be able to exert some control over it with practice. Tom, Good eye! It is a different zither. I’ve been playing m...

Volkstümliche Zitherschule p27 - Röslein

Hey folks,

Been about a year now and I’m still at it. Wanted to share where I’m at with you all. I really enjoyed this exercise, I find myself humming it sometimes.

Re: Newbie; The Journey Begins!

Welcome! That is a beautiful instrument! You’re very fortunate to have found such a nice zither to start learning on. I would recommend checking out Keyes Scales earlier than later in addition to whatever instruction book you decide to work out of. It can be found on the site. Good to have another n...

Re: Aloha 'Oe

Hey folks, I’ve been working on putting some of the older zither music I have into MuseScore so I can convert them from treble clef to bass clef. It also makes it easy to print the older music and keep it all in one binder. I decided to plug Aloha Oe in the other day to see what it sounds like and t...

Re: Zithers by John Roeder

Petty instruments!

I can't even imagine the amount of time and effort that goes into actually creating one of these. I'm curious though. On the Klavierboden model, the braces on the bottom, are they for amplification or for support? This is the first Zither I've seen with them.

Re: Humidty Control

Happy New Years Everyone! Earlier in December, during a long practice session with the heat on, all of the strings on my Wünsche went flat. I decided then to take the advice of the forum and turned my office into a humidity controlled music room. I’ve put in a hygrometer, room humidifier and case hu...

Re: Humidifiers

Thanks Bill, good time of year for a lesson on humidity control. What humidity level do you all try to keep your Zither at? I was reading that acoustic guitars are best around 40 - 50%, do those values apply here as well?
