Re: Progress Video - Volkstümliche Zitherschule p24

Pete, It really does. Even aside from the acoustics, just having a dedicated spot where I can just stop for a few minutes during the day encourages more practicing. Rudi, I have an old original print that I've been working out of, but the three workbooks are available online as PDFs at this point, p...

Progress Video - Volkstümliche Zitherschule p24

Afternoon everyone! Been a few weeks, thought I would poke my head in and share where things are at. Moved through “Stad Stad” pretty quickly and am just about done with “Liserl Polka”; not quite ready to share that yet. Also, recently went out and purchased a wooden table that I could dedicate to t...

Re: Need help in chosing Zither strings

I started off with the Bergefe Red myself, but decided to change them out after reading one of your previous posts on tension Ken. The contra base arm of my zither had warped slightly from decades in a closet strung with steel strings. To prevent any further warping I switched over to Bergefe Greens...

Re: Listening recommendations?

Welcome aboard Max, Munich vs Vienna tuning is just a different set of fretted strings. Munich tuning is A, A, D, G, C, Vienna tuning is A, D, G, G, C. Don’t believe you would get a different sound from the instrument, just different finger patterns on the fretboard. Some good examples on YouTube, S...

Re: May 18 video!

Morning Tom! Your hand position and finger motions are defiantly improving. Your hand seems much steadier than where you started just a few weeks ago. Watching your right hand while playing, it looks like you may be dropping a note on your accompaniment chords now and again. It’s really hard to get ...

Re: Right hand position

Dave, Great video! I sure could have used that type of detailed explanation when I was trying to figure out where to keep my fingers and how to strike the strings. You should put that video somewhere on the main page in learning or something, along with any other instructional videos you make. Not o...

Re: My first learning video

Morning Pete, Great first steps! Your scales sound good and your fingers look like they’re all where they belong. Accompaniment will take time to feel more natural. Strumming C-Major and G-Major took a lot of effort. For me it was convincing one finger that it could move further than the other in on...

Re: A very general apology to you all

Hey Pete, I don’t think your experience is based on attitude or humor as much as the reality of this space. There aren’t that many people left who play, and I would guess the few who remain are not haunting internet forums. I tend to think of this place as a library where people come to share forgot...

Re: Next video!

Morning Tom, For what its worth: I think your right hand position looks better in this video, and your hand seems more confident. Fingers are staying in the area they should. I think your next step would be to slowly get the melody back into that tune, and come back up to a steady comfortable pace. ...
