Re: Amplification

Not really portable, but you could get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QCKJDU That will provide phantom power to your mic and also convert the output from XLR to 1/4". Another option would be to get a dynamic pickup that didn't require phantom power. Or get a battery-powered P...

Re: BR Heimat

Oh, and there's also Spotify . It's not really a set "stream" that you listen to, but rather a whole passel of music tracks that you can play on-demand. For free. Just checked and there is a "zither" playlist that someone set up. Listening to it now... Nearly seven hours of music...

Re: BR Heimat

Can anyone recommend additional zither music resources available on the Internet? Well, it's not zither-specific, but I enjoy using TuneIn Radio for listening to radio from all over the place. It's sort of a one-stop-shop that collects streaming radio and internet-only streams from various stations...

Re: Tell me your "my first zither" story!

You just bite the bullet and jump in, doing the best job you can at picking an instrument. What you learn from that firs...

Tell me your "my first zither" story!

As a prospective zither player, I'm faced with the initial hurdle of simply getting a hold of one in the first place. I'm sure I'll be posting specific questions about where/how to buy a decent beginner's zither, how much to budget, etc. But in the meantime, I'd like to know how you obtained your fi...

Re: neater hand-written scores

Looks interesting, Rudi! Back when I did notation by hand, all I had was a straightedge... this would've come in quite handy. These days I use MuseScore. While it does require that one have modest computing hardware, the software itself is completely free and runs on both Mac and Windows computers. ...

Introducing Myself

Hello all, I'm Jeff, from Nashville, TN ("Music City"). I don't yet have a zither, but I'm strongly pondering the idea, so I thought I'd join the forum here. I got my start as a piano player, but eventually picked up the accordion several years back and now teach it to a handful of student...
