Re: Alternate tunings?
Welcome and congratulations! Before you take the leap, you might want to download the first few pages of Keyes scales workbook (available on this site) and develop some comfort, then try the first few griff exercises in Darr, or Kabatek (the latter is also available on this site). The zither is an e...

There have been no bidders as of May 25, 1700. I may put in a bid after all.

What is this?
Seen on www.ebay.de, in the category "zither" is what looks like a kind of pre-zither. account title title: 2xaltezither. Four string griffbrett, with the frets "staggered", not in a straight line. Seven (eight?) accompaniment strings. To my recollection, it looks like the descri...

Re: Hello from Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA
I stopped today to talk to the "tiny white haired lady", who still works at Heim's shoe store and leather repair shop in Grafton WI, and fondly remembers her grandfather playing the zither. Her grandfather was Joseph Schauble of Port Washington WI, where he was employed at the chair factor...

Re: Name this Zither ?
The red "f" seems to be the fourth string in the accompaniment section. The first accompaniment string may b a flat/g sharp, again speaking to age.

Re: Name this Zither ?
Unusual 6 string griffbrett, which has pegs not a "machine". This instrument appears to be very old, yet in apparent good shape, may be quite collectable, and needs professional appraisal.

Re: restoring an old zither
Recently, I has the opportunity to examine an older zither. Old? there was an empty slot in the accompaniment (#0 ?) where the some older zithers kept an ab in front of the eb. There was a "bow" or cup shape to the top, with the center of the top being about 5 mm "below plumb". I...

Re: Why Pain?
Just ordered "Let's Start"; this sounds great. Several other interesting items on the site, I was almost like a kid in a candy store. Americans enjoy a really favorable US/Aus exchange rate right now. Students and teachers, current and potential, should really take a good look at this site...
