Re: String material

I recently acquired a Schwarzer that had steel guitar type strings. It may have been all that was available at the time, but it can warp a zither. There are plenty of sources for the correct type strings if you do not presently have a source.

Tuning Chart

Dave - You used to have on the zither.us site a tuning chart for both Munich and Viennese. However, all I can find is an explanation of how to tune a zither... fortunately, I printed out the chart years ago. It was looking kind of ratty, but I was able to photocopy it and had the new one laminated a...

Re: Munich VS Vienna

I agree with Dave. My mother-in-law's zither was tuned in Viennese, and I had it changed to Munich when I started. I know that Tomy Temerson says that he admires anyone that can play with the Viennese tuning... if you hear how Tomy plays... I can only imagine how difficult it would be to learn Vienn...

Re: Has anyone checked into this learning program?

Hi Pete - I thought instead of going down the same road as you by emailing the company, I sent off an email to my friend, Tomy Temerson, who lives outside of Frankfurt. He emailed me back to say that he is very familiar with this school as he has two students that have learned bad habits from the pr...

Re: Musikschule- Zuhause DVD learning course, 55 lessons for €19

Pete - Did you ever get a reply from your email? My husband found this same site online and had the same concerns and had planned to write an email to the site with questions this weekend. However, if you have not received an email back, I wonder if it is worth the effort to contact them with an ema...

Re: Zither Magazine

There is always Google Translator ;) Unfortunately, translate page does just that - translate the current page. Like you said, time to brush up on the German!

Re: How did you get started?

Hi Tom - Technically, I can read music (thanks to years of playing violin). Since my first 'encounter', it has been slow. At present, I am working in the following books since the first of May: Von Anfang an Band 1, von Günter Andrich Die Zither in der Volksmusic, Manfred Schuler The first book is g...
