A visitor to the web site sent in a pic of an English-branded zither, and this may be the first instrument I’ve seen with a label from England. Very interesting. I suspect the zither was made in Europe. It was not unusual for music shops to purchase no-name zithers on which to affix their store label. The inlay work is nice, and stands above a plainly made student model.
A brief search of Google provided early digitized editions of The Musical Herald that was published in London during the 1890s. I did find an entry for a “Goebel’s Zither Society.” The group consisted of 10 zither players, which shows a certain degree of interest in the instrument in England during this period.
