These photos of a zither made in St. Louis were shared by Laurie B. She states, "The zither was owned and played by my mother's grandfather, Freidolin (sp?) Roetzler (Rotzler). He grew up in New York state and lived most of his adult life in Winona, MN." The zither maker, Alois Wurnitsch (1865 - 1941), was born in Austria and came to the US in 1892. According to the 1900 census, he was a carpenter by profession. These examples of American made zithers are great to see and keep surfacing.

WOW!

Minimal inlay, standard form; bet it sounds great! What does the bottom look like?

With a lighter stain, it could pass for a Förg.

Pass for a Förg? That comment was based on the sigmoid shape of the left hand bridge.

Hi Rudy,

The owner of the Wurnitsch zither sent in a photo of the zither's bottom today. It's attached.
