Zither by William Teubner

Post by Dave »

This zither was made in 1890 by William August Teubner, an early craftsman in Baltimore, Maryland. I am aware of three of his zithers. One of the others was made in 1882. Teubner signed and dated his instruments on an internal brace under the fretboard. One would have to look inside the instrument to see these markings.

The restoration was performed by Sasha Radicic, a master luthier in St. Louis, Missouri. The work performed on this zither included the repair of over 40" of surface cracks, repair of broken parts under the mechanic, refiling of frets, rebuilding of pin holes for better friction, etc. Thanks to Sasha, an important piece of our musical heritage has been preserved.
