Slippery Slope

Post by Kennethpauls »

I love the Wechselschlag thumb rings that Michael Schilling makes, but they always slip down my thumb while playing no matter what size I purchase.
Anyone have a good method for keeping thumbrings from slipping?

I contacted John Snyder in New Jersey and he had some information to share regarding this. Hope this helps!

How to Stop Zither Ring Slippage

Here's a tip from the late Leonard Zapf, zither repairman and virtuoso zither player in Philadelphia, PA, USA:

Glue a piece of 400 to 600 grit (very fine) waterproof sandpaper to the inside of your zither ring.  Contact cement (such as Barge cement) works well.  You may need to lightly sand the inside of the zither ring first to aid adhesion.  The added thickness of the sandpaper inside the zither ring may make the next size larger zither ring more comfortable.  Recommended for zither playing on hot stages or at hot humid outdoor events.
