Ludwig Sollinger

Post by Dave »

Milla Sollinger shared this photograph of her father, zitherist Ludwig Sollinger. In the attached group photo, he is shown seated center with his zither with an unknown group in Johnstown, PA, circa 1930. Ludwig Sollinger was born in Hausham, Germany on Nov 11, 1896. In 1923 he immigrated to the United States aboard the S.S. America from Bremen. A coppersmith by trade, he eventually settled in Los Angeles, Callifornia. According to his daughter Milla, "father really didn't have favorite songs...he really played most everything. Probably waltzs from Vienna and German folk songs."

Milla also shared a photograph of her father's zither, a 39-string Max Amberger.

notice the guitar player on the right. his instrument is in a lap position, similar to that in the photo or zitherist rudolf mueller and unknown guitarist guitar (munich 1923, interesting times) shared with dave earlier.
