Two Zithers for sale

Do you have information regarding zither supplies, such as rings, strings, tables and sheet music? Are you looking for a reliable zither, or have one to sell?

Two Zithers for sale

Post by Musicmaker »

If you know anyone that may be interested I have two zithers for sale.
An Adolf Meinel
A Framus.
Both are recently restrung and in good playing condition.
Both have cases.
Also i will throw in the zither tutors and the three Im Heimgarten volumes that I have acquired.

Hi,
I’m interested. May I inquire the asking price of each, and the location from which they would be shipped. I ask the latter because I’m an RVer and, if you’re in the US, I maybe could come pick up the instrument. And, if it’s not asking too much (as I’m a complete newbie), could you post photos?
Best regards,
M

Yes sure.
I dont quite know what an RVer is?
I will take some pics of them and post them.
I have restrung both with Lenzner Soloklang strings.
I will also send a small collection of thumb pics.
I want to recover only what I have paid for them plus the cost of the strings.
So for the Adolf Meinel I am asking for $800 Australian dollars.
For the Framus which looks like it was made yesterday, I am asking $500 Australian dollars.
They will be carefully packed and sent from Australia.
Because of the distance I am prepared to go halves with the postage.
I believe this to be fair.
Regards

Here are the Meinel pics.
The large thick black lines along the front and back are not cracks. It is in the wood.
The instrument is lovely to play and has a full rich sound.
The case is its original but now without handle.
When I bought it I had to get the seller to cut off the leather handle as Australian customs do not allow leather goods imported.
The case is a bitty tatty and recovered but it ia all solid and there.
Nothing a bit of diy should not sort out.
But there is no need really.

Here are the pics of the Framus concert zither.
I have contacted Framus in Germany to find out how old it is.
His words were
" Ah yes, that was one of my fathers made in Feb 1965.
"
Still has its matching Gauruntee papers and case key with original Framus label.
Must have been locked away and forgotten about.
It has a loud bright sound.
The Meinel is slightly easier to play but both are good Zithers.
If you are unsure, do what I did and have BOTH!
One as a spare if you snap a string or anything.

Pete-

How much would you want for the three Im Heimat volumes with postage sent to the US? (I would like to get these, and checked the German website, Notenbuch.de for these.....the price per volume there is fair, but their shipping fee from Germany to the US is far more than the books). Let me know.

Don Offinger in the US.

Do I infer from your message that you are leaving the Zither world??

I would like to keep the books with the zithers as they make for a better selling point.
I might just sell the Framus.
I think I might end up sorry selling the Meinel if I ever had tge urge to go back to it.

Rudi and Dave are right!
I have put so many hours into attacking the impossible, why stop now?
After all I can actually play a few simple tunes, its just the mistakes I need to get rid of.
I WILL be sorry if the Meinel goes...you are right.
Thank you for scraping me off the floor my good friends.
I will sell the Framus.
Could I sell it to the forum maybe?
I was thinking that if the forum has a good zither for someone to start on, any newbies that ask where they can get a reasonably priced starter instrument , you could offer it to them?
To ebay it for pittance seems obscene to me. It is a good instrument recently with all new strings. ( soloklang) nylon..just perfect for the starters tender fingers!
I would rather see it go to a good home/ cause and therefore will accept any reasonable offer from you?
Am I mad for this idea?

Pete - I'm afraid I'm lost again!

You say "Rudi and Dave are right" - but Rudi and Dave never made any comments in this thread.

I've been slugging away at zither for over four years now. You only started four months ago. Way too early to toss your zithers into the recycle bin! (Personally I could never even dream of paying those high prices you paid for your zithers, plus the shipping between continents. I envy your resources!)

If you're sure you're going to divest yourself of one, why not contact one of your Australian zitherists?

I've referred you to her several times, but you never seem to follow up.

Anyway, "Four Months Does Not a Zitherist Make".

Thanks Tom,

That was a personal e-mail. My essential comment was to put the instruments aside for a month, then give it another try.

Tom, you are correct; 4 months does not a zitherist make.
