Wendlstoana Fest

Post by Rudy Mueller »

It is rumored that there will be a a few Ziag/Hackrett/Blockflötte/Zither numbers at the B.G.T.V. Wendlstoana Fest at Old Heidelberg Park in Glendale, WI, on June 13, 2015.

Rumor confirmed. Although the Hackbrett and Blockflötte players have been learning their instruments just since the beginning of Advent 2014, our fledgling group did the elemental Altbayrischen Tanz Arien, Breitenauer/Bauern Landler, and Staad, Staad as well as any. We arranged them to "C" for ease of newer players. The ukulele fit right in, with a more elemental/earthy sound than the mandolin.

No standing ovations, no requests for encore, but when it was done, we were all smiling.

Every long journey begins with the first step. The Wendlstoana-Milwaukee membership now includes another, but brand new zither student, as well as a younger member who is having his grandfather's 48 bass Hohner re-built...(.a new one would have been less expensive.)... Great additions for future growth.

Well, we got past "Staad, Staad", Oktoberfest, the Holydays, and are still together.

Pieces we are working on now include "Frohe Herzen" and "ich grüsse dich mein stilles Tal" from Dondl's Münchener Spielabend, "Schneewalzer" (Koschat), and the three "Böhmerwald Landler" (Krumauer). Other pieces are on the horizon.

One writer in the journal "Musik & Tradition" commented that folk music was that type which is played together and enjoyed by at least three generations. If that is the case, our fledgling group qualifies, and then some. Incidentally, "Staad, Staad", music and text, was one of the pieces featured in the regular note/score section of a recent edition of Musik & Tradition.

Playing in a group enables all to encourage one another.
