Johann Jobst Idealreform Luftresonaz Forte Zither

Post by enslein »

On first look, this is a normal zither, but appearences are deceiving.
On this Zither is Vienniese- and Munictunig at the same time.
How does this work?
The Accompagmentstrings are fixed on two levels.
The higher level is Viennise Tuning and the lower level in Munic tuning.
I mean it was a very good idea to arbitrate the quarrels betwen the tunings,
but this system is unfortunately very complicate to play and it outlast untill today.

This kind of Zither was patented in the year 1902.
The invention and development was made by Johann Jobst in Graz cooperated by Ferdinand Kollmaneck.
Jobst also invented the Luftresonanz Zither.

When i illuminated this Zither i found the producing year. It is 1902 too.
Probably Kollmaneck had this Zither in his hands...?

The most popular players on Idealreform Zither was Richard Grünwald.

This is very interesting. I've seen Idealreform zithers before, but this is the first time I've heard of both tunings being used. Thanks for sharing this!
