Post by Dave »

Sebastian Fichtl recently restored a Franz Schwarzer Arion Harp Zither, model no. 74. The instrument, serial number 10590, dates to 1921. An early catalog description reads:

"No. 73 - Top veneered with especially prepared Rosewood Burl, sides veneered with genuine Rosewood; ivory celluloid bound edges and inlaid wood purflings; ebony finished pillar; Rosewood shell and scroll; patent aluminum string-holder; finely engraved German silver patent head; in cloth covered, flannel lined wood case, with nickel-plated trimming. ……….92.00

No. 74 - Same description as No. 73, with fancy pearl figured inlaid around soundhole; colored wood inlaid purflings; carved pillar and shell, scroll inlaid with pearl; handsomely engraved patent aluminum stringholder; best quality plated steel tuning pins; finely engraved German silver patent head; in leather covered, velvet lined case, with nickel-plated trimmings. …………108.00"
