Young zither players, tender fingers
One of the comments one hears from younger, interested children is "Oooo, that hurts". What, if anything, can be done to reduce this digital tenderness? Lower the strings? Different strings? Is there a "kids" zither? or???? As an adult, I have difficulty reaching the contra strin...

Re: Good Vibrations
Thanks Ken,
What I was thinking of, for example, was a meter which had output in decibels or watts/cm^2 or??, to permit "peer review".

Re: Good Vibrations
Does anyone have a practical method for estimating the relationship between resonance and table construction, which we could use out here in the field?

Re: Richard Paulus Zither
Freistadt Wisconsin was founded in 1839 by Pommeranian Lutherans. It is among the oldest communities in Wisconsin. The Pommeranians were not without music: Freistadt WI is the home the the historic and well known "Alte Kammeraden" brass band. My wife inherited a Mittenwald violin from her ...

Re: Weihnachtssingen
Advent/Christmas music, 2 part: Elena and Andreas, you have an in depth music background. Your mentioning "Blockflötte" brought to mind our local Bavarian group, which includes a Blockflötte, or "recorder" player. There is a notebook series titled "Volkstümliche Weihnacht&qu...

Re: Weihnachtssingen
Welcome Andreas and Elena, Just out of curiosity, about where are you located? Could the Deutscher Zitherbund help find players and teachers in your area? One player here in Wisconsin drives about 100 miles one way (160 km) for monthly sessions. But you do have each other, and the harmony of multipl...

Happy New Year to all, ....and I hope our Euro friends still have their digits after the Sylvester fireworks. First of all, I have neither a license to practice medicine nor one to practice physical therapy....... ...but to our Euro friends, a source in Mainz says that one of the "specials"...

Re: Richard Paulus Zither
Not to confuse the matter... but there is a clan of Paulus's here in Wisconsin, centered around Cedarburg. This area was settled by Pommeranians, initially around the area of Freistadt, Wisconsin circa 1837-1850...and they moved out into Wisconsin from there....(yes, there is really a place in Wisco...

Re: Early Cabinet Card - New York
The stately presence and suit exude royalty. Is it of the diplomatic corps? The little finger on the right hand looks almost "cone shaped" and the little finger on the left hand is really hidden. Congenital? Generally, my left hand little finger is visible and actively counter-balancing th...
