Re: 6 string griffrett: next project
About three years ago, Freddy Golden experimented with tuning the outer a string up to e. But he didn't find strings that would resist the high tension required to achieve an e with the usual fretboard string lengths of some 435 mm. So he added a kapodaster to effectively shorten the string lengths ...

Klaus Waldburg's left-hand thumb protection
Klaus Waldburg, one of my admired zither virtuosi, uploaded a new piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZz8kz573hs This time, we get to have a look at his hands, and we can see his left-hand thumb protection. I sure would like to get comments and recommendations on that subject - my thumbnail does...

Rudi Knabl is a good reference. As you can read in http://zither-virtuose.de/rudi-knabl.html :
"Viele Instrumente wurden um eine 6. Griffbrett-Saite (F) (...) erweitert".

Zithering with Leo
My son happened to come across the following blog entry and (knowing my predilections) passed it on to me:
https://peopleofpancho.com/2014/12/17/z ... -with-leo/
Contains a couple of interesting photos and even compositions for zither.

Hi Rita, West Coast yes, zither player yes, and I am even German (or, rather, Bavarian). But the four(!) of us are in Southern California. This coming weekend we are finally meeting again for some quartet playing. I believe we can answer many of your questions. Send me an email to velocio1@gmail.com...

Re: music notation software, initial comments
In looking it up on www.fortenotation.com, I found that it is for *Windows* only - just to clarify. From my side, I have been happy for the last several years with MuseScore https://musescore.org/ which is cross-platform (Windows, MacOS and Unix) and FREE (opensource). It does have a learning curve,...

Re: Gutmann Zither-Schule
Note that Gutmann numbered the fingers opposite to the current scheme: In his book, ring finger = 1, middle = 2, index = 3, thumb = x (page 11). This may be confusing.
