Re: the goal?

King Keyes told me he used the '10 pennies' method: Lay 10 pennies out next to your zither. Every time you perform that repetitive task (like fourth finger alternating between C and G with each chord), take one penny away. Therefore you have a quest, and you can see the progress occurring.

Re: By the way.....

Yes, it was a wonderful time- the local zither group and historical society were so gracious in making us feel welcome. And such a pretty location, next to the river in a part of the country I'd never visited.

Rudi, will you be going to next April's zitherfest in Köningswinter?

Re: How did you get started?

When I graduated college I went with a buddy of my through Europe for the first time. I happened to see a zither in a music store in Munich. Anything so unusual with 42 strings I just had to buy. When I returned home I was lucky enough to find a wonderful teacher, King Keyes, and finally decided to ...

Re: May 19 - polyphony

I use that same method. Inch by inch/measure by measure. I cannot say it is the best way, but it does allow me to memorize the piece and enjoy it without being bound to a music sheet. Zithertische

For those, like me, that prefer to play zither standing up- and who can't always find a nice baby grand piano to play atop (I find them at the local community colleges & university music rooms)... Here is a nice solution that my wife bought me for the holidays: https://www.amazon.com/Winsome-Bri...

Slippery Slope

I love the Wechselschlag thumb rings that Michael Schilling makes, but they always slip down my thumb while playing no matter what size I purchase.
Anyone have a good method for keeping thumbrings from slipping?

Re: Sheet Music

Thank-you, all. Freddie Golden made a nice version of The Hawaiian Wedding Song; been working on that in the meantime
