Re: Im Heimgarten

I now have all three! Band 3 is a tad too advanced for me but at least I have it. In Band 1 , there are some delightful old German tunes which I am working on. I have also gotten a copy of the Volkstumliche Zither Schule which also has some wonderful old tunes in it. I heard Andy play Für die Kleine...

Re: Darr exercise 16

Hi Tom. Thanks for your good advice. Yes....I do try to keep my left thumb over the strings. It always naturally wants to hide and get away . Sometimes in the vid you will see me suddenly relocate it to where it should be. I must try to keep it over the A strings. Funny you mention the Schuster. I d...

Re: The Third Man Theme music

Wow Dave...you just dug up a gold mine. Many many thanks for the article about Alberta Krader and more so her arrangement of the Third Man Theme. That is awesome! With fingering too by the looks of it. I now have a choice. After reading your recommendations re Ilse Harris version I immediately bough...

Darr exercise 16

Well... 5 months into this.... Its my best! So far. It is a terribly hard instrument to play. I know what it is supposed to sound like....its just the frustrations of making it happen. Maybe one day! Pete https://youtu.be/1sc8J6rK2Ag Here are a few scales I have learnt with a few additives of mine. ...

Re: Are these Zithers any good?

Tom. Sorry I did not get back to you. This is what they sent me. I demanded a full refund and with a lot of fuss eventually got one. It is a disgrace. They did not show pictures of the back of it. Now i know why! But now I also have my beautiful Meinel which makes up for all the ärger. Pete https://...

Re: Listening recommendations?

Hi Max. Welcome to the forum. I am also a beginner and newbie here. We all have personal tastes in music but my two favourites to listen and watch! Are Anton Karas who had his own distinctive syle to making the Zither sound beautiful. The way he used vibrato to give you goose pimples. Just like Stef...

Re: Perfekta Zither/Anton Brauer

Hi Quince. I am also 67. It is never too late to have a go on what you dream. I did not get the bit about your Zither needing a new fingerboard.... In that case then, it would be beyond me. I have done guitar refrets but the Zither frets are a different thing altogether. I could have sorted thd loos...

Re: The Third Man Theme music

Excellent! Nice one Dave, I have written to ask Ilse if her Duett version can be played as a solo with one Zither and also that the harmonies on the Griffbret strings will still be there on one Zither......if you know what I mean. The book you refer to also seems to be excellent material. I have wri...

Re: A very general apology to you all

June. I am very sorry that I did not reply. I have only just noticed upon reading the posts that you asked a question that I have rudely left unanswered. I cannot answer your last quest as I live in Australia! I do not know what Zither movements are going on in USA. But I wish I was there to join yo...

Re: Perfekta Zither/Anton Brauer

Hello Quince. I am a Brit living in Australia. Did you manage to get anybody to repair your Zither? I have repaired a lot of stringed instruments in my time. I do not have a name. I am not well known. But my work quality has been remarked upon by many in a positive way. I realise your instrument is ...
