Re: Bergfee Strings
I'm all for the Lenzner fisoma; they're just easier on my fingers.

Tuning; arrrgh.
If I have not asked before: why is it- unlike with other stringed instruments- that we tune the Griffbrett on the 7th string instead of the open strings. And why do the strings get flatter/sharper further up the frets; some of my instruments more so than others. Is there some physics involved with t...

Re: Looking for Help in Finding a Zither
Why not save the expense of restringing and repairs on an Ebay zither- which has the risk of arriving warped or cracked, and buy a small new zither from Wunsche. They make very nice instruments. When I was there, Stefan Meinel (again, why is everyone in Markneukirhen named Meinel?) showed me a very ...

Re: Fretboard Tuners
And if you're looking to repair the fretboard tuner, take it to Jeffrey Meinel (why are so many people in Markneukirchen named Meinel? It's so confusing) at Rubner. He speaks English, he's very nice and his company does nice work

Re: The Circle of Fifths
Yes interesting, but none of you have answered the question: Why the strings descend Eb to Bb, then ascend at F, then descend C to G, then acend at D, etc.

The Circle of Fifths
In my quest to be a better Zitherspieler I'm taking a few music theory classes at the local college. During office hours the professor was trying to figure out the instrument- coverting the open strings to his keyboard a few feet away, and noticing the pattern: 2 descending fourths then up a fifth, ...

Re: Zither lessons via Skype
Hello group,
Yes I took a few lessons from Carmen when she was here in Los Angeles for a few days in transit. I can attest to her ability as a teacher. I learned a great deal in that short amount of time, and she is a patient instructor with lots of positive reinforcement. It was a good experience.

Re: Need help in chosing Zither strings
I'm certainly not an expert but I will put in my 2 cents. I like Lenzner Fisoma because its easier on my fingers when I play a long time. I just put them on my Meinel- actually Sasha did it for me as...well he's just really good at it. He also shortened my fretboard by 5 frets so it doesnt produce t...

Re: Listening recommendations?
I like Christoph Schwarzer's album "Still Pergnügl. Its well-produced, and he takes advantage of the contra bass in a lot of these songs. Of course, all the previous recommendations are also excellent choices.
