Re: Practice Video - Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht

HI Andy, Your right hand looks great. I know what pain it is to keep that little finger from curling but it looks like you've got it! Congratulation. Now, all you have to do is to start using that little finger on some of the more distant bass and contra bass strings. That can give you some more inte...

Re: Microphone: stand or mount

Hi Rudi, I've got a bunch of LIving History performances this month so I've mainly been working on bowed dulcimer and pipes. I'll get back to zither after all of this is over. November will be more restful. I have really been enjoying the new zither table with its increased bass response. I am a mer...

Re: Microphone: stand or mount

That's what we all try to do for each other! Isn't it great we have this resource?

Re: Microphone: stand or mount

Hi Rudi, I've always used a boom stand, a condenser mike, with it pointed toward the fingerboard but away from the sound hole. Having a stand on the table itself risks extraneous. sounds coming through the mike. If I have enough equipment available I put on mike as described above and another one ov...

Re: New Table Success!!!!

Hi Rudi, I used cherry for the sides because I had some on hand. I would have preferred to use mahogany. Lighter in weight. In the end, it doesn't matter as far as sound goes. It's the top surface that is really important. Here I used a piece of spruce that had a very wide grain, too wide to use for...

Re: Anton Brauer

What a beautiful instrument! My Adolph Meinel perfekta was made about the same time, again, near as I can tell from the label. I have recently discovered that a table with a thick (7/8") top greatly enhances what were rather weak bass notes with mine. I find this especially useful with a perfek...

Re: New Table Success!!!!

Hi Rudi, I've done three legged tables. Be sure you put the single leg down at the right hand end and have the other two at the larger end. that way the pressure is evenly distributed and will feel solid. I still prefer four and having an old photographic tripod leg as the adjustable one works great...

Re: New Table Success!!!!

Hi Rudi, Sorry it has taken me some time to get back to you. I've been away at Clifftop, which is a week-long music and camping experience I do every year. I play zither fro everyone every morning and people love it. The table has a 3/4"-7/8" top, an open bottom and foldable legs. The zith...

New Table Success!!!!

HI All, For years I've tried different approaches to a zither table that would be transportable and sound good. The transportable part is easy. You make legs that fold up and have space for the instrument in its case to go inside. Usually, all the various versions of portable zither tables I've seen...

Re: new strings

Hi Evelyn, Thanks for the question. I haven't found a lot of difference between the two. I do find that the platic windings on a few of the Bergfe higher strings lasts longer than the standard windings that you have on the Lenzners. I got a set of each (Lenzner and BergFe) so now I have spares betwe...
