Re: A. Darr - No. 16
Hi Don, my zither is by Horst Wünsche. I purchased it from Germany about 10 years ago after starting off on an unbranded student zither. http://www.zitherbau-wuensche.de/ I order Lenzner strings from Bill Kolb when I need them, and these are replaced when they break outright, or when starting to fra...

A. Darr - No. 16
Hi Folks, a member shared a video, so thought I would do the same. I'll make an effort to record more of these A. Darr exercises in the coming weeks.

Re: Musikschule- Zuhause DVD learning course, 55 lessons for
Hi Pete, that's a good find. I haven't heard of this instructional material, but I think the use of multiple camera angles would be most helpful. Plus, looks like there are plenty of song selections to keep one occupied for some time. If you do order, ask them to add captions in English. That would ...

Re: Chords are Hard!
Tom, yes, all at once. It's really not that difficult as long as your right-hand position is correct. Here's a photo to illustrate the hand position over the strings. 4th over the G, 3rd for the b and 2nd for d and g. With the heel pad of your palm on the bridge and fingers in position, all at once,...

Re: How to practice?
Tom, part of the issue may be your right hand position — your right hand should not be floating above the strings, if that is what I’m seeing in the follow-up video you posted. That would, I suspect, make it more difficult to keep your place when playing. Take a look at the illustrations in the Tabo...

Re: Chords are Hard!
Hi Andy, you'll find as you practice zither pieces that much of it is a finger puzzle. For chord progressions, try to come up with fingering that promotes fluidity, not choppiness. I had a look at the piece you posted this evening and have some suggestions, though I would say there are other variati...

Hi Rudi, I agree with you! Dondl is a very good choice. I also enjoyed the folk songs in Adalbert Abrecht's books. These are in a 3-volume series as well.

Re: Beginner Video - Tom M.
Hi Tom, I’d say you’re doing very well! It was probably a year before I could play anything that resembled a song. I had the additional hurdle of not knowing how to read music. Lot’s of hunting and pecking for me, but I kept at it. :-D It’s all there, just work on fluidity. One thing that may help, ...

Re: How did you get started?
My introduction to the zither was through my Bavarian Oma. I’m happy to say that I was fortunate enough to have a few lessons from her before she passed. http://www.zither.us/?q=zitherist.ellen.george After, I studied with Jane Curtis for ~ 10 years. I’ve had a teacher for almost as long as I’ve bee...
