Re: By the way.....

Rudi -

It was a great gathering and I did have the pleasure of meeting Joseph! It was also great meeting the newly formed Missouri group. They are all beginners and they hosted the gathering!

Re: More modern, visual ideas for learning?

Hi Heidi -

Thank you for sharing this. As previously said, beautifully laid out! Do you have a program for producing this documentation? You probably speak of this in a post I haven't read yet ;)

Re: How did you get started?

I started playing zither after the 2011 North American Zither Gathering in Davenport, Iowa. I had my mother-in-law's zither (she grew up in Austria) - I never had the pleasure of having any instruction from her before she past away. I did a search online, contacting Janet Stessel who put me in conta...

Re: Forum and Website Moving

Hi Dave -

So far, the only issue I have found is the link to the Library of Congress does not work... but that could be that site and not your website ;)

Re: Aloha 'Oe

Thank you, Dave, for the music! I hope to be back onto scanning the sheet music from my mother-in-law in the near future ;)

Re: Free Unbranded Zither

Dave - I emailed Joe about the zither, thinking that maybe this would be one that the Missouri group might want, but he said that one of his sons wanted it. When I asked if his son was going to learn the zither, he said 'maybe'. I told him that would be great and to contact the group here for any he...

Re: Oiling your strings?

Hi Tom! Professional I am not... but for not posting, life happens. I will not bore you with the details as this site is all about zithers and zither playing  . Make a video?   I will have to work on that. My playing over the last 6 years has been more like Bill Murray pla...

Re: Franz Schwarzer Zither

eBay (both .com and .de), Craigslist, and estate sales ;) If the instrument is online only, ask for lots of pictures to make sure you are getting a playable instrument and not a wallhanging. Sasha Radicic in St. Louis can refurbish a playable instrument if you find one!

Re: Oiling your strings?

Living in Florida along the coast, I know all too well what humidity and salt air will do to a string instrument! For that reason, our house is not opened up to the fresh air unless the humidity is way down. As far as oiling strings, I believe the answer is no. My zither is strung with Concert Zithe...

Re: A very general apology to you all

Pete - No apologies necessary! I have been involved with different forums, and the 80/20 rule usually applies. In my case it is not a matter of nothing to say, but finding the time to be on the forum (I will be better on this). I think it is great that you are posting your learning on You Tube. My b...
