Re: Interesting Zither Restorations Site
Bruce- One of my neighbors had Mr. Cook refurbish an old zither some years ago, and the neighbor subsequently gave me his instrument. I have no idea what my neighbor paid Mr. Cook, but I did see the email correspondence of work in process. Let me give you my candid unvarnished opinion. Seeing the re...

Re: Altzither strings and tuning
Rudi- My guess is that similar to a brass quartet/quintet of Trumpet(s), French Horn, Trombone and Tuba, the AltZither takes the similar place as the French Horn in the ensemble. I would be interested to know, however, why the name "Alt"Zither. BTW, are you back to ZitherSundays? I always ...

Re: Altzither strings and tuning
Andy- Delighted to be of help. I know you will find the tuning guide for the AltZither strings a wonderful resource. Tune your strings to those pitches, but know that you play your strings like you would a concert zither. If you play in an ensemble of key of C zithers, you will have to transpose you...

Re: Altzither strings and tuning
Andy- My Zither is an Altzither (you'll find it pictured elsewhere on the Zither US Forum). If you need a tuning guide for the Altzither strings, send me an email (DonOffinger@gmail.com) and I'll be glad to share and email you back my running guide....it is very useful to know what each string tunes...

Re: Transcriptions of Hymns for concert zither
I would suggest using a basic hymnal from any Protestant Church to capture a season's worth of hymns. You will have 4-parts immediately presented along with the text to follow along. You can choose which notes you want depending on your level of enthusiasm and skill-level. You may find just playing ...

He may be able to refer you to someone for zither repair either in th...

Re: warped front board....
Graham- I would recommend that you contact Sasha Radicic who is in St Louis, MO. He is master luthier and is highly skilled at zither restoration and guitar making. He has refurbished two zithers of mine over the past number of years, both of which are pictured elsewhere on this Zither Forum (both a...

Re: Rectangular tuning wrench
I'm fascinated to see the makers label in your zither with address of " 5 Avenue A, corner of 1st St, New York, NY ". My immigrant great-great grandparents lived on the same block with address of " 21 Avenue A, corner of 2nd St " in the 1850s. Small World!
