Re: Playing minor chords with right pinky?

Ken, thank you so much for saying that the right pinky is essential for good playing and that any finger should be allowed to play anywhere. I like that mindset ;-) You know, when I started with the zither one of the first advices I read was an advice to discipline the right pinky and attach it - fo...

Playing minor chords with right pinky?

Hello dear Zitherists, it’s a year since I started learning the zither (selftaught) and I still really love that instrument and play nearly every day. But as a lot of the pieces I play do have minor chords in them, I had to realize that playing minor chords forces my hand to jump too much, because m...

Re: Max Roller: Major, Minor, Seventh Chords (1881)

Shouldn't the zither player be able to find all the notes just by looking at the music itself? Hm, maybe... At least it would be nice if it were that easy... But as a zither beginner coming from guitar and ukulele I am not only slow in reading the bass notes, but also slow in counting bass s...

Re: Max Roller: Major, Minor, Seventh Chords (1881)

Thanks, Dan. I`m really happy to read that you like it and find it helpful - great! And speaking of a similar fingering chordlist for the fretboard: I totally agree - that should be the next aspect in understanding the whole instrument. So I started to work on that, too. There are two fretboard chor...

Max Roller: Major, Minor, Seventh Chords (1881)

I always wondered why in all Zither Books for Beginners (at least in the ones I have) there is no visualisation of the accompaniment strings logic. Couldn’t believe that no author of a Zither book had done this. So I did some some internet recherche and I would like to show you what I found: a very ...

Re: Distance learning!

Thank you for posting the video and showing your progress. That’s really interesting for me too, because I do learn just by seeing you play und recognizing what you’re struggling with. And then it’s great to read the feedback you get from advanced players like Ken. I remember you said you’re learnin...

Re: More modern, visual ideas for learning?

Hello Tom, there are many german words for clumsy. I know exactly what you mean: It ... just ... all ... goes ... so ... swol ... -oops- ... slow :-) The same with me, my dear! But I always hear my old french teacher say: Repetition is the key! And then I go on again. And again. And again… Hoping it...

More modern, visual ideas for learning?

Dear fellow zither beginners, I’m opening a new topic based on the ‚Gutmann’ discussion about learning the zither with some more modern, visual approaches. As I’m still trying to learn to play chords and melody together, I rearranged the accompaniment of „My Bonnie“ from this site’s „Keyes Zither Me...

Re: Gutmann Zither-Schule

Hello fellow zither beginners, to show you an example of how I try to learn the zither with a more visual approach, here is a chord worksheet I did for "The House of the Rising sun": ZitherChordVisualApproach2_HouseRisingSun.pdf I found a free guitar music sheet for that song (http://www.g...

Re: Gutmann Zither-Schule

Hi Tom, I had discovered these videos, too. They look good, but taking a look at the website I found them way to expensive, too. And besides they only seem to have a good animated visualisation of the fretboard notes, but nothing alike for the accompaniment strings. For the moment I will go on learn...
